This workshop you'll have fun applying all the principles of digital photography to different kinds of shot.

Capturing the Shot

Aimed primarily at the outdoor and landscape photographer, you will practice different kinds of action and landscape shots. The lesson is based at the coast where you will practice slow shutter techniques to capture movement in the waves.

  • Setting basic picture-taking options makes sure you’re always ready to capture the shot.
  • Knowing how to control exposure puts you in control creatively.
  • Adjusting depth-of-field.
  • Using filters.
  • Slow shutter speeds.
  • Shooting on a tripod.

In previous workshops in this series, you have:

  • learned about the mechanics of your camera and how to adjust the shutter speed, aperture, and ISO to achieve a properly exposed picture.
  • seen the different settings available for adjusting the white balance and color choices in your pictures.
  • worked with different focus settings to successfully capture still or moving subjects.
  • seen how adding to your flash to your pictures can improve them or give a different creative look in certain situation.
  • learned how different types of lens can affect your pictures creatively.

In fact, you now have all the tools you need to be a creative photographer. In this workshop you will use the skills you have learned in different situation, so you will be confident to always capture the shot.

Workshop format

This is a two-hour workshop. We will meet iby the ocean to practice a number of techiques. Each workshop starts with an explanation of the lesson plan, in which we discuss what we are trying to achieve that day. We will then all work on a number of practical exercises with short breaks for explanation and summaries. At the end of the workshop we will come together to discuss what we have learned. The workshop is based on the contents of Digital SLR eLearning Kit For Dummies with additional exercises and information. Class sizes are small to enhance your learning experience.
